Call for help issued

PROVIDENCE – The bad news: there are only two states in the country with lower volunteer participation rates among seniors than Rhode Island.

The good news: Serve Rhode Island hopes to improve the state’s No. 48 ranking by adding 3,000 senior volunteers to its corps during the next three years.

After reading about the number of senior volunteers in the Ocean State in “Volunteering in America 2010,”a report issued by the Corporation for National and Community Service, Serve Rhode Island staff decided to apply for a grant to promote volunteerism to older adults.
