Newport woman named AARP advocacy director

PROVIDENCE -- Deanna J. Casey of Newport has joined AARP as associate director of advocacy for the Rhode Island office. In her position, Casey will direct the advocacy efforts of the state organization and develop strategic plans and campaigns directly related to the issues and priorities of AARP.  She will represent the organization as a lobbyist at the Statehouse.
    Casey is a native of Newport and previously was assistant vice president for progressions at the Metropolitan Life Insurance Co., according to AARP. She is active in her community, serving as past president of the Middletown Rotary Club, treasurer of the Museum of Newport Irish History, officer of the Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians and as a member of many other community organizations. She holds a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Manhattanville College in Purchase, N.Y., and a master’s degree in management information systems from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. She is also a graduate of Leadership Rhode Island.
