PROVIDENCE -- Eastern fitness specialist Bob McManus will teach a weekly tai chi class for seniors at EPOCH Senior Living on Blackstone Boule-vard on Tuesdays at 10 a.m. in May.

The traditional opening weekend of the 36th Annual Ocean State Senior Olympics is scheduled for June 7, 8 and 9 at Rhode Island College in Providence, where the signature track and field events will be held.

Weed and Goodwin honored



Rhode Island State Sens. M. Teresa Paiva Weed and Maryellen Goodwin, Senate president and majority whip, respectively, were honored recently at the LeadingAge Rhode Island Annual Conference and Trade Show with the nonprofit association’s Making a Difference Award for outstanding leadership in the area of long-term care advocacy.

“I was a little bit arrogant,” he says, laughing at himself. “It kind of sums up my problem. Who did I think I was at 24 [to be writing an autobiography]?”
