Sharpen your skates before hitting ice rink

Even at the height of the winter season, there are still fun and enjoyable ways to recreate in Northern Rhode Island. One of those is skating at a municipal ice rink in the area. The facilities have many opportunities for public skating, and learn to skate and special event programs are occasionally offered.
For details, contact one of the following rinks: the Dennis M. Lynch Arena on Beatty Street in Pawtucket, (401) 728-0500, extension 251; the Smithfield Municipal Rink, 109 Pleasant View Ave. (Route 116), (401) 231-1051; and the Woonsocket City Ice Rink, outdoors at Market Square behind the Museum of Work & Culture, (401) 762-6400.
If you are looking for a pond to skate on in the Blackstone Valley, call the state’s Division of Parks at (401) 222-2632.
The event of the month is prepared in conjunction with the Blackstone Valley Tourism Council. To contact the council, call the Visitor Center at (401) 724-2200 or go to www.tourblackstone.com, where events and visitor information are listed.
