Medicare recipients could save on drugs

In 2011 under provisions of the Affordable Care Act, Medicare Part D enrollees received a 50 percent discount on brand name prescription medications and a 7 percent discount on generic medications in the so-called doughnut hole or coverage gap of their prescription drug plans. This year, the discount for generic medications is up to 14 percent.

Planning will lessen your income taxes

Low-and moderate-in-come workers can take steps now to save for retirement and earn a special tax credit in 2011 and the years ahead.
The saver’s credit helps offset part of the first $2,000 workers voluntarily contribute to individual retirement accounts (IRA), 401(k) plans and similar retirement programs. Also known as the retirement savings contributions credit, the saver’s credit is available in addition to any other tax savings that apply.

After announcing the New 7 Wonders of the World in 2007, the New7Wonders Foundation began worldwide voting to select the New 7 Wonders of Nature, a list of the seven most incredible natural wonders of the modern world. Voting ended on Nov. 11, when the following preliminary winners were announced: Amazon Rainforest (South America), Halong Bay (Vietnam), Iguazu Falls (Argentina/Brazil), Jeju Island (South Korea), Komodo (Indonesia), Puerta Princesa Subter-ranean River (Philippines) and Table Mountain (South Africa).
