Each May since 1963, the nation has paid tribute to older Americans. Originally, President John F. Kennedy and the National Council of Senior Citizens designated May as “Senior Citizens Month.”  Thanks to President Jimmy Carter, the month was renamed in 1980, to Older Americans Month and has since become a tradition.
