Luscious fresh colorful berries will be in season soon in the Ocean State and Massachusetts. In fact, because of the warm weather we’ve been having, the strawberry picking season will begin early this year. Several orchards report that strawberries may be ready for picking next weekend. Be sure to check with your local orchard or farm before you venture out, however, to find out the latest conditions and schedules. You can also do a search on the Web for local picking spots and information by typing “pick your own berries” into your browser.

Spring migration is over, and the breeding season for songbirds and most other wildlife in the region is in full swing. By now, bluebirds and robins and Eastern phoebes are probably sitting on their second clutch of eggs after already having raised one family this year.  And the warblers and vireos and sparrows are defending their territories and preparing to rush to and fro in an effort to fill the bellies of their nestlings.

Director calls on public to prevent abuse

Concerned individuals are urged to wear a purple ribbon to call attention to this horrific and degrading problem affecting those who ought to be the most revered members of our society.
