When a loved one dies, grieving family members and friends often are confronted with dozens of decisions about the funeral that must be made quickly and often under great emotional stress. That is something I experienced firsthand last year with the passing of my beloved 88-year-old mother, Dot.

A study led by Dr. Vonda Wright, an orthopedic surgeon and founder of the Perfor-mance and Research Initiative for Masters Athletes at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, showed that the thigh muscles of runners in their 50s, 60s,70s and 80s were virtually indistinguishable from the muscles of a 25-year-old.

While there are often large numbers of songbirds traveling through the area on their southbound migration, many of them are in drab plumage that makes them challenging to identify. In addition, the birds are not typically singing during this season, so even finding the birds can be a formidable undertaking.
