Have you ever gone to the doctor and had to repeat a test because the results were not on hand? Do you ever feel that your doctors don’t talk to each other? Or that no one doctor knows all of the medications you’re taking and why? Those kinds of things happen frequently. They not only lead to higher costs; they can also be dangerous.

Scam artists don’t take a holiday

CRANSTON -- It may be a time for giving, but scam artists don’t take the holiday season off. In fact, scam artists are still busy distributing the gifts that keep on giving -- medical identity fraud, bank fraud and other schemes and scams that are designed to get your money and access to your credit. Here are three of the latest scams circulating around Rhode Island:

Director gets taste of meals program

 In September, I had to relocate the Senior Agenda Coalition’s office due to the closing of our previous home, the Westminster Senior Center. I was very fortunate to find a new home at Meals on Wheels of Rhode Island. Before my arrival, I thought I knew what Meals on Wheels did. But as with many things, I found that “behind the scenes” was much more interesting than I imagined.

Be apprised before hiring an appraiser

Most folks have at least an object or two that they believe to be valuable, and for many, the time comes when for one reason or another they want to know just how valuable. Before you jump to have your items appraised, be sure you understand what the purpose of your appraisal is; otherwise having an appraisal can often do more harm than good.

Your time is best gift loved one can receive

By now you have celebrated Thanksgiving and are looking forward to Christmas. If a friend or family member is in a long-term care facility, you are probably planning to do something special for that person. As festive as this time of the year may be, there is also the potential for patient injuries to occur during celebrations and observances. That is why it’s always good to do a safety review.
