Learn to maximize cold weather gear

   Did you know that it is more difficult for you to satisfy your basic food, water and shelter needs in a cold environment than in a warm environment?
    Even if you have the basic requirements, you must also have adequate protective clothing and the will to survive. The will to survive, which is just as important as the basic needs, has sustained many less well-advised and equipped persons.  As I have said many times before, in most instances, the will to survive takes precedence.

    Most of us, no matter where we may live, will likely face severe winter weather such as subfreezing temperatures, ice, heavy rain storms, flooding and strong winds. Of primary concern is that the severe weather can cause power outages, leaving people without light, heat or communication service. All too often, those inconveniences could last for days.  Therefore, it is important to prepare for winter weather before it strikes. Here are some suggestions to help you get started.

    A disaster can happen anytime and anywhere, and when it strikes, you may not have much time to respond. Sometimes utility services are shut off, or first responders are unable to reach you right away.
